The Power of a Name
When I was seven years old and at a family gathering, I noticed all my cousins calling my dad by his given name, Joe. So I started calling him, Joe, as well.
After a while my father called me over, put his hands on my shoulders, looked at me kindly, and said, “Son, there are lots of people in the world who can call me Joe. But you’re the only one who can call me Dad.”
