Hope from a School’s Larger Purpose

Every time I look at the accompanying photo of the high school where I teach, I’m filled with hope.

From above, the school represents much more than a structure with walls and classrooms: it serves as a reminder that everything happening inside is a collective effort.

The values students learn in high school, such as maintaining hope and practising kindness, are the ones they take into the world.

Every nook and cranny of my school is filled with students carrying dreams of who they want to become. And these students are supported by educators and staff, and by families who believe in them.

Collective effort

Seeing this photo of my school reminds me that the staff are working together toward something greater than ourselves. We are united by the belief that our work can help.

As educators, our efforts combine to help build a kinder, stronger, more hopeful world. And as our students graduate and continue their education, and then enter the workforce, they can use and promote those values as well.
